Slow Cooked Cannabutter

How appropriate that I should have a particularly green post on St. Patrick's Day. We won't be chopping up vegetables today, that is unless you're trying out Stephanie's roasted potatoes and cabbage recipe, we'll be slow cooking noxious dairy! Interested in making it a group activity? Check out this friendly and hassle free recipe-dio that I iMovied all by myself! Movie not as hassle free as I claimed? Not surprising! I've written some annotated directions for the less visually inclined.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Oz or 28 grams of pure B.C. shakey cheech (if you aren't fortunate enough to have access to B.C. bud other cheeches are fine, but I worked with broken up bud shake, and not stems of leafs.)
  • 1 lb or 450g-500g of non-salted butter or ghee. I say non-salted because I will be baking and extra salt isn't always called for. I also used ghee because there is no water and so the THC is absorbed/distributed more fully.
  • 2 cups water
  • Cheese cloth
  • Coffee grinder or food processor or hand grinder (necessary to rip your weed into flour)
  • Plastic tupperware large enough to hold two cups of water and your butter
  • Rubber bands
  • Plastic gloves
VARIATIONS

Cannabis is also smoked ritualistically in cigarettes and pipes!

DIRECTIONS

Part I - Dissolving
  • Pour the two cups of water into your slow cooker and turn it on high. The butter will melt in the hot water and prevent any of the butter or THC burning off.
  • Using your food processor or coffee grinder chop the weed until it is extra fine and powdery.
  • Cut your butter or ghee into cubes, and when the water in your slow cooker is hot (20 minutes?) Melt the butter in the crock pot. Let butter melt completely, stirring to help remove any chunks
  • Combine grass flour and butter and stir in well. Make sure to scrape the crystal kief off the sides of the food processor or grinder.
  • Turn slow cooker on high for 1 hour. After one hour, change to low setting and let sit for no more than 24 hours. We left it on over night (a total of 15 hours) and it stank up the house, but is incredibly potent.

Part II - Buttering
  • You now have a dark mess of dank green fat. You need to filter out the plant material to get the good stuff.
  • Fold cheesecloth over itself until it can serve as a filter.
  • Place folded cheesecloth over tupperware and affix using elastic bands.
  • Pour pot butter through cheesecloth into the tupperware.
  • When the butter has stopped dripping through, remove cheesecloth and squeeze out the remaining butter wearing your rubber gloves.
  • Reattach cheesecloth and pour remaining liquid and squeeze again. Discard useless dope.
  • Spatula and collect all the butter, put a lid on the tupperware and store in the fridge until solid.
  • When the butter has risen and solidified on top of the water, use a knife to cut out the mass of green butter. Throw out the nasty swamp butter. You can keep in your fridge or freezer for as long as your original brick of butter to use at well!

USE

I would test out your serving suggestion by teaspoon and work your way up from there. You want to cook with about 0.5grams of grass per serving, so this recipe should make almost 60 servings by my calculations (and I assure you they are not extensive). I think it would even be possible to combine infected butter with clean butter for larger recipes or if you want to spread it out. Since the THC is ready to go, you can simply enjoy a slice of green toast and jam!

  3. This is the most well laid out and detailed recipe for making cannabutter w/ a slow cooker that I've been able to come across in my fairly but not incredibly extensive search. I've bookmarked this page and will be trying it out before the week is out. I'll be sure to report back with my findings. Thanks!

  13. I make this all the time. I use the trim from AK-47 hydro crop. Usually use 8 oz. of trim to one pound of butter. Use the butter for part of the oil when making brownies. It will give you "couch lock" if you eat too much.

  14. Making my 3rd batch. Since I use the butter for chocolate chip cookies, I don't strain the butter using cheesecloth. After the slo-cook process is over, I cool the crock pot, put in fridge so the butter and water separate. When thoroughly cooled, I pick off the huge chunk of butter which is now resting as a solid brick on surface of water, measure by 1/2 cup portions and freeze loosely wrapped in wax paper before placing in plastic bag whick eliminates butter waste when thawed. The 'green goop' sludge gets strained and popped in the freezer too. I use the 'left over sludge' in a batch of cookies. Might be my imagination but I think that particular batch of cookies was way stronger.

  22. I used a crockpot liner w great results- made straining and clean up super easy! (you can get them at wal mart in the same aisle as the baggies)- just put the liner in first, then your water, butter and bud; cook as directed (I cooked mine 10 hours on low)...I had my container ready to go with the cheesecloth, then you lift the crockpot liner out, hold it over your container and poke a teeny hole in the bottom of the plastic liner. It poured everything out in a small slow stream...then ya just throw it away, crock pot is clean...AWESOME! The butter looks great too!

  26. I guess I am the first poster of this new year...I am prepared to set this in motion tomorrow. I'm wavering about the time. Once, with "already been vaped weed", yes, you can use it twice, I simmered it for 4 hours and it was great. Another time it was cooked short because it only had HIGH so the butter almost tasted burned, New crock pot this time and I'll try for 8, 10, 12 hours. I am using a blend of Indica tested at between 19% and 24% THC and a half batch of half pound butter and one quarter Top Shelf. It's a tad hard for me since I don't walk anymore but I think things will turn out fine.

  27. I use different method as follows. Start with one quart water in crock pot set on high after 30 minutes cut up 4 sticks butter and melt. Using a food process chop 3/4 oz of buds and mix with melted butter in water. Leave pot on high till reach temp of 190. reduce to low temp and continue cooking until reach 220. This took about 5 hours, let sit for 45 minutes then strain thru cheesecloth folded 4 times. squeeze remaining liquid by hand. Let cover product and place in refrigerator until it becomes firm to cut out.
The sludge that was discarded, about the size of a golf ball. It was so fine, that the next time I will use it as a filler in brownie mix, and see if it makes more potent as one of guys above mentioned. Careful for just 1 square brownie will give exceptional high in about 1 hour, and take you about 24 hours to come completely down.
    A HAPPY CAMPER

  28. for my process I made a pound of clarified butter, cold water washed my AVB (33grams) and wrapped in cheese cloth, keep changing the water daily for 7 days. then melted the clarified butter in the crock pot on high till melted, then added the AVB in the cheese cloth tied up and added 1 gram of kief, set to low on crock pot, stirring occasionally for about 4 hours. Barely any smell, and no water needed since clarified butter has a higher smoke/burn rate. After, squeezed out all infused butter out of the AVB cheese cloth, put it in the fridge/freezer and use as needed.

using clarified butter keeps longer and cold water washing gets the nasty taste and smell out.

    Enjoy!
